 FAQ

Here are answers to some of our most Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What type of camera equipment do you use?
A: Most of the images posted on this site were created with Nikon digital cameras including the D100, D200 and D300 models. A Nikon F100 35 millimeter camera, usually using either Fujichrome Velvia or Kodak Ektachrome 50 or 100 speed slide films, was also frequently used. After processing, all film was scanned with a Nikon Coolscan LS5000 scanner. Occasionally, a Shen Hao 4x5 II large format camera was used for landscape images. Most landscape photos were taken while the camera was supported with a Gitzo G1227 carbon fiber tripod with an Arca-Swiss B1 monoball head. A wide variety of Nikon, Schneider and Sigma lenses were also used to capture the photos.

Q: Do you manipulate your images?
A: The simple answer is yes, but to a minimal extent. Sometimes filters, special films or other camera techniques are used to create special effects in photographs. However, for most mages use of special techniques as well as Photoshop or other image editing software is limited to simple contrast, color balance, sharpness and saturation adjustments. Animals photographed in captive settings will be labeled as such or with the location of where the photo was taken (i.e. Denver Downtown Aquarium, Butterfly Pavilion, etc.).

Q: Are your images available for stock licensing?
A: Yes. Most images on this site are available for stock use. If there is a particular image displayed on this site's online galleries that you are interested in licensing please
contact us with your request.

Q: Do you sell prints of your images?
A: Yes. We recently integrated a secure PayPal shopping cart to enable online ordering of our prints but you do not need a PayPal account to order. We accept all major credit cards. Our images are personally signed in archival ink and printed on Fuji Crystal Archive paper. Sometimes we also sell special packages of matted and framed prints at a discount. For more information about prints please see the About Our Prints page.

Q: Do you photograph weddings or portraits?
A: No. In the past we have photographed weddings and portraits but this is a service we do not currently provide. We specialize in nature, landscape, wildlife and travel photography. Sometimes we also accept action/sports or news photojournalism assignments. Requests for images that do not fit within our specialty will be denied.

Q: Do you provide graphic design or printing services?
A: No. We produce photographs and text. This content is mostly used in advertising, websites, books, magazines or other editorial publications. Viewfinder Media is not currently a graphic design or a printing company. If you are looking for a design or printing company in the Denver area we'd be happy to refer you to some of our contacts.

Q: Do you sell books?
A: Yes! We have just released "Classic Colorado," a book capturing the essential landscapes and wildlife seen in the Centennial State. More books about Colorado as well as other photography-related themes are being planned. Please go to our books page to view and order from our current selection!

Q: May I use or link to one of your images on my website/blog/social network?
A: Maybe.
